Introduction

This application can be used by SharePoint administrators to explore their SharePoint site collections remotely. It uses web services to connect to SharePoint sites remotely. It also enables them to create some reports against the farm SharePoint site collections.

Requirements

This application can be run from any machine that has access to SharePoint sites in any farm because it uses the SharePoint Web Services to communicate with SharePoint. The following is the summary of the software requirements:
  • Windows Vista and higher or Windows Server 2003 and higher
  • .NET Framework 4.0
  • 1 GB of RAM

What can this application do?

Here is a list of things can be accomplished with SharePoint Manager:
  • Explore the SharePoint site collections in the a farm and their subsites collections, including:
    • Users with direct permissions
    • Security roles
    • SharePoint Groups
    • Lists
    • List items
    • List columns
  • Explore the properties of the following objects:
    • Site collection
    • Subsites
    • User
    • List
    • List column
    • SharePoint groups
  • Produce the following reports
    • Last modified date report for sites and subsites
  • Download documents and pages from document libraries
  • Analyze SharePoint ULS logs
